The following sites have been identified as containing information potentially useful to parents about educational matters in Australia, or useful to students of various ages undertaking all sorts of projects. We think that the kids’ Search Engines will be especially helpful in this respect.
We’ve included some sites just for fun, these have all been approved by other educational bodies, or by major public libraries. Schoolstop of course cannot be held responsible for the correctness of any information in these sites, but we have used all due care in selecting them for your attention.

Search Engines for Kids

Kidtastic is an American search engine and subject directory for kids. Includes an online dictionary, encyclopaedia, comprehensive links page, and resources for parents too.

Junior Yahoo! engine that covers all the educational and fun bases, with plenty of kid-friendly stuff like screensavers, music news, and parent/ teacher pages as well.

A US-based educationally-oriented search-engine. Their aim is not to be the largest, but to be the best and most reliable source of online information for kids. Includes a great collection of copyright-free illustrations and artwork for projects, and lots of lesson plans for teachers.

Kids’ Fun Sites

Lots of free downloads of software that is both fun and educational. Includes critical assessments of all the software to save you downloading the wrong thing.

Fedral government site that provides resources on making safe use of the internet. The whole site will be of use to parents, but this page in particular has a directory of safety-approved games and online fun.

A site intended to empower children to build global social and knowledge networks – this covers both cool stuff to do, and educational resources, includes online forums where kids can communicate about

This page, on the National Library of Australia site, has useful research resources for secondary students, including some helpful tips about online searching.

The Primary School site is created by a teacher in NSW, and has grown to a very comprehensive guide to resources for pupils, parents and teachers, all structured around the primary school curriculum. Its clear and easy to use and there seems to be something for everyone.

Charles Sturt University hosts a large directory of online resources on a variety of subjects, both research materials for primary pupils and information for parents and teachers as well.

Schoolworld is an international consortium of schools. The site offers a wealth of online educational resources to members and others. This directory of general Australian curriculum links is available to all, and is very extensive. Mainly directed at parents and teachers, but also with some child-oriented content.
